The Love of the Fans
by
Eric Everett
The season is over, but admirers of LO are still showing their love. Fans from across the world have been writing Lamar to express their gratitude for his effort, and their respect for him both as a player and a person.
Some of those comments have been posted in the News area of the site, but a number of fans have submitted their comments through the Ask LO section. Many of these are worth sharing.
This first is from fan mfeige:
Hey Lamar,
I don't actually have a question. I just really wanted to attempt to let you know that what you've done for the Lakers this past season is unbelievable and under-unappreciated. You were playing really well until your knee injury and you didn't deserve that after everything you had already been though. Then you struggled so much coming back. At times as a fan I was frustrated, but I understood that you were giving it your all and you were frustrated just as I was. Then came you shoulder injury, I couldn't believe that you had been dealt that blow. Then you decided to continue to play and the amount of respect I have for you just sky rocketed. Let me say I had respect for you, for being strong and still playing basketball this season and for how well you have played. That meant so much to me as a fan. That you would play through your pain for the team for the fans. It was a wonderful contrast to Vlad or endangered his own health. then you hyper-extended your elbow in game three
and I thought that you had to be done. I saw the pain on your face for the rest of that game. Then you game back with a sleeve on I was appalled that you continued to play. Then you even poured your heart in to the final game through the pain and everything. through all the rumors that you wouldn't be a laker next season. to give us the gift of 33 points and 10 boards it will always be something I cherish. Then to watch as the ball boy put that towel on your head, it killed that look of defeat on your face. You deserve better. you gave all you had to the lakers this season and you didn't get much in return and I'm sorry about that. Last year I was so depressed because we had a 3-1 lead, but this year I knew I wouldn't be depressed because I saw this coming. Then I saw your face at the end of the game and that did it. I'm so sorry you probably won't be a laker. I wished we had done that mid-season Kidd trade. I'm just so sorry. I just want you to know that I will support you
no matter what jersey you don. I respect you as an individual and as a teamate for what you have given the lakers. I won't forget it either. I hope the front office can find a way of brining in help with you getting rid of you because you are such an asset to this team. Stay Strong. Thank You and I'm sorry.
The second featured e-mail is from Jordan:
I just wanted to thank you for the great season you had with the Lakers this year. I can't imagine the pain you have gone through over the last 9-10 months, but I can tell you that you have been truly inspiring. Kobe has been my favorite player for the past 9 years, and I never thought that anyone could take his place. It might sound cheesy, but what you have gone through, how you came back from injury, how you dropped 33/10 in a playoff loss and left everything you had out there, well, it's that kind of heart that makes a champion and I pray to god that we don't trade you. For what it's worth, you are now my favorite player and I will root for you wherever you go, if you go. Keep working hard. Keep that same heart, that same spirit. Keep your head up. I have this feeling that next year is your coming out party. Thank you again. Just know that what you did has not gone unnoticed. True fans know.
Finally, niewiadomski51 writes from Poland:

Good Luck
Hi Lamar! I am wishing you the best of luck this coming season. I pray that you will have a happy, successful and most of all healthy season. It would break my heart if you ever have to leave the Lakers because we love you in LA. You are simply mesmerizing on the court and I am hoping that we will always see you in that purple and gold. All the best!
I idolize Lamar Odom
Lamar, if you ever read this, I have to say I am probably one of your absolute biggest fans on the planet. What you gave to the Laker organization was incredible. You have the heart of a warrior, and I see you as an absolutely phenominal player. I cannot even being to emphasize how badly I would love to see you a Laker next year, and for life for that matter. You are truely an inspiration to me since I have been dealing with many issue myself over the past 2 years. Every time I approach frustration, I think of what you did for us through all you had to deal with. As an absolute die hard Laker fan, Kobe Bryant has been my favorite player for the past 10 years, and a player whom almost nobody could compare to in my mind. I have been supporting you since I saw the skills you had, and the heart that you showed Laker fans this past season is unmatchable. I wish you the best of luck Lamar, and I hope you remain a Laker. You are an inspiration for me to get through things that may even be beyond my control. An inspiration that I honestly cannot describe in words. You are an incredibly talented athlete who knows HOW to play the game of basketball, and one of the most unselfish great players I have ever seen play. I will pray for you everday, hoping you can overcome all your hardships. I truely respect you, for you are a great person. I will get through my problems one day, and that day I will look back and know you were a big part of my success. You are already a true champion, a true warrior, and you have a heart like no other. I hope you dominate wherever you are next season, and I hope others will one day see how special a player you are, and how much you did for you organization. I wish you the best of luck Lamar, and God bless your for the good you have done.
Lamar Odom = Heart of a Champion
Lamar, thank you for your heart!
Please take good care of yourself over the summer. See you in October. You will always have my support!
The heart of this team
Dear Lamar,
When I think back about this season, the first thing that always comes to my mind is you and what you’ve gone through, personally and professionally. What you demonstrated to this team, this organization, the fans and world was your toughness, your strength, your courage, your will, your leadership, your competitiveness but most importantly, YOUR HEART.
When you went through what you did in the summer, you could’ve walked away from this game forever. But you didn’t. When you went down to that knee injury, you could’ve sat out longer than you did. But you didn’t. When you suffered that shoulder injury, you could’ve called it a season. But you wouldn’t. And when you hurt that elbow in the playoffs, you could’ve thrown in the towel. You refused to. Starting from beginning of the season, when you decided to put that gold uniform on and step on a basketball court for the first time in months all the way to that last game end of the season, giving your team and the fans 33/10 – you have demonstrated to the world what it is to have heart. You have never stopped giving your heart, not even for one second, for this whole season.
I hope this organization sees all this and I pray that when you put on a jersey next season, it says “Lakers” on the front because when this team goes against into battle next season there is no one I would rather have fighting for us. Everyone always says it is the name on the front of the jersey that is the most important. But no matter what name is on the front of your jersey, I will always support and appreciate the name on the back.
I could go on forever, but it never seems enough nor does it do justice for you’ve done for us. So Lamar, I just want to say:
THANK YOU.
Much Love and God Bless,
Kemy
God Bless You
Lamar,
When I first started following you when you were a Clipper it was because of your talents. Then came your trade to Miami and after watching you play for our country I could not help but acknowledge the awesome champion that you are. It was like a dream come true for me as a Laker fan since the Kareem/Magic days to get you in the Shaq trade.
The struggles you have endured throughout your life and the humbleness with which you have carried yourself are awe inspiring. I could never really put a finger on why I was so drawn to you as a fan for so many years until the last few months where certain events in my own life helped me to find God. I have fought going to church for so many years, but now that I have found God and seen with my own eyes in retrospect what he has done for you, I can honeslty say that you inspire me to be a devout follower of God.
I pray that somehow God helps you to remain a Laker, because I know Kobe needs a leader as strong as you to keep faith in light of all the criticism. Whether Kobe, my favorite player in the league since he was a young teenager jacking up last second air balls in the western conference finals against Utah, acknowledges it or not, he needs you more than any player in the world. I know God is the only one that can help him endure the negativity that his brilliance attracts. Being close to you brings him that much closer to God. Your leadership cannot be replaced by points and rebounds and I hope the Lakers value that as much as I do when it comes time to make the changes that will take this proud organization back to the top.
God Bless You,
Daniel (a proud Laker fan living in Phoenix)
LO7 - The Heart of a Champion
I love you Lamar! Before and after your injuries, you were dedicated to the game of basketball and to your teamates, Laker Organization, and your fans. Everytime your stepped on the court, your presence was surely felt. The intensity, the way you facilitated the ball, your drive to the basket, dunks, etc. was really fun for me/your fans to watch! I respect your game sooooo much. I know you have endured many obstacles this season with your injuries and in your personal life - but you inspired me by still keeping your head up and still going on strong. You are by far one of my Top 3 favorite players of all-time! With all this trade talk, etc. I hope you know that I/WE your fans will support you wherever you go! Belieeeeee` that! =) I hope you do stay in Los Angeles though, because I'm so proud to say that you, LO7, are a Laker. Hopefully a Laker for life! So thank you Lamar, for everything.
Dear Lamar
I want to thank you so much for this season in Los Angeles Lakers. I hope you will end your career in LA because I'm a big fan of Lakers. When you came to Lakers I put you on the 1st place with Kobe in my favorites players. I am from Poland and you are my idol because you are very impressive player and you are left-handed like me. I want to play like you and be so good human like you. Even if LAL could trade you and other player for Kevin Garnett I will be very sad, because I like you more then KG and everybody in this league. When I was watching you at the court I have starting to believe in my skills , because you show me ( and lot of more people ) that left-handed person can do even more then right-handed. I've never seen player like you - guy who can play on PF with almost 7 feet and guy who can even play on PG because you have so amazing dribbling skills. I've never seen so universal player like you. You have lot of fans in Poland , but in my country basketball isn't so popular sport and it's not easy to be a basketball player in Poland. I hope that my dreams come true and I will be a player like you. If you will don't play in Lakers I will be still watching you in every other team.
the goodz a proper namesake
I can't say enough about what you do on and off the court. Your something of the future and a throwback all at the same time. Your the kind of teammate that if you saw one of your teammates getting beatdown in an ally by 20 people, it would be 20 against 2, instead of 20 against 1, eventhough you knew what the end result would be, and thats exactly the kind of person we need in Laker land . Let me just say for the Record Mitch would be out of his mind if he even THOUGHT about getting rid of you for anyone in the league. When you play the game, your like the math equation 3.14 22/7, an unsolvable equation, just uncheckable. I've been a laker fan since showtime, and when I saw the look in your eye on Wednesay, I knew you came not to play, but came to WIN.Your have the mold of Magic, Cap, Big Game James, Coop, and all the other Lakers from that era. Hang in there I know in my heart the Lakers will once again reign supreme.
GBYL (God Bless Your Life)
Robert
